Corrupted AVI files can be frustrating. If you've spent days downloading a movie or TV show, there's nothing more annoying than finding out that the file is too damaged to enjoy. A file that simply refuses to play altogether can often be remedied just by downloading a missing codec, but corrupted video files are a different matter. You can fix all of these problems with a free utility called DivXRepair. DivXRepair works by identifying the damaged frames in a video and removing them, without disrupting the rest of the file. The missing frame doesn't disrupt your viewing experience, but does allow the video to play more normally. While it's a little tricky to work with at first, DivXRepair should pose no real problems for the computer-savvy user.

DivXRepair is an older utility -- while it works under most versions of Windows up to Vista, it may not run properly on Windows 7. Running the utility in compatibility mode may help.
